Public Works completes the construction of new port infrastructure that serves the anglers of Mazarrón (10/05/2010)

The new facility, located in the south basin of the fishing port, is designed as a workplace for the repair of engines and mechanical equipment used in navigation

The Minister of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, accompanied by the mayor of Mazarrón, Francisco Blaya, today opened the new port infrastructure to improve working conditions "one of the largest fishing fleets in the region, as the Port of Mazarrón, consisting of more than 200 workers, "said the counselor.

"This new craft workshop is part of the actions carried out by the Ministry, through the Directorate General for Transport and Ports, to modernize and equip the fishing port of Mazarrón, to provide the necessary support to all workers making use of the facilities in the performance of their daily work. "

The craft shop, located in the south basin of the port of Mazarrón, next to the fish market, is designed as a workplace for the repair of engines and mechanical equipment used in navigation.

The infrastructure will protect workers from adverse weather conditions, avoiding exposure to the sun or rain on arrival at the coast and providing a safe place to play their work.

Similarly, fishermen can use as a storage facility to deposit their utensils and tools, as well as all types of work related to fishing.

In this regard, the Minister stated that the objective is "to support the development of fisheries in the region, providing the means to ensure maximum safety and comfort as possible to the professionals who perform this task with great tradition in towns like Mazarrón ".

The new facility, which has two floors with a total investment of 191,922 euros, has a workshop equipped with a crane capacity of 5,000 kilos, at a constructed area of 176.5 meters square on the ground floor.

Overall improvement of port infrastructure

The construction of the new building workshop in addition to all actions undertaken by Public Works in the fishing port of Mazarrón, worth 208,259 euros, as the renewal of general electrical installations, which has led to the commissioning of two new tables and distribution lines, new plugs, the placement of 15 lighting columns fiberglass and 20 electronic meters in the houses of fishermen and herdsmen.

Furthermore, it has carried out the replacement of sidewalks and streetlights access to the port, with precast concrete pavers.

Another of the work performed is the repair of concrete paving of East Pier fishing dock, and beam cliff that is part of the structure of the pier, and reclamation of access to the floating dock on the end of the dam coat.

"With the construction of this new craft shop, from the regional government will complete a series of comprehensive measures to improve port infrastructure in Mazarrón that help drive the development of fisheries in the town and are a support for the work played by the Fishermen's Association, "concluded Jose Ballesta.
