The Region celebrates the National Day of the Greenways with a route that will allow you to enjoy the nature and the interior of Mazarrón (09/05/2018)

The general director of the Institute of Tourism, Manuel Fernández-Delgado, together with the mayor of Mazarrón, Alicia Jiménez and the manager of the Consortium of the Greenways of the Region of Murcia, Juan Soria, today presented the XX National Day of the Greenways .

The day will take place this year next Saturday, May 12, and starts at 9.30 am with a round trip of nine kilometers along the Vía Verde de Mazarrón, with exit on the D4 road and the Country Club urbanization.

Fernández-Delgado said that "this is one of the great holidays of the year for lovers of nature and hiking, and this edition is very special, since the route runs through the new La Pinilla-Mazarrón route", inaugurated on last year next to the Greenway of Cartagena.

The general director of the Tourism Institute ratified the Regional Government's commitment to interior, nature and active tourism, and congratulated the Consortium of the Greenways of the Region for their work, "which has allowed, in recent years, the Greenway of the Northwest is added the greenways of Cartagena, Mazarrón and Almendricos, which account for a total of more than 150 kilometers.

Similarly, Fernández-Delgado highlighted the work of the Consistory, which "has allowed Mazarrón to become one of the most interesting destinations on the Costa Cálida, with a great diversity of products and an offer that goes from the sun and the beach to the gastronomy or the interior ".

He also congratulated the municipality for having achieved two blue flags more than the previous year to reach 10. Eight on beaches (Rihuete, El Puerto, Bahia, Nares, Grande-Castellar, Alamillo, El Mojon and Percheles) and two ports that are incorporated into this quality system, the Club de Regatas de Mazarrón and the Mazarrón Marina.

In addition, the general manager recalled that next year will begin work on a new greenway, called 'Chicharra', referring to the popular name given to the train that linked Cieza with Jumilla, Yecla and the Valencian Community.

Sports and leisure uses in contact with nature contribute to attract more tourists in the low season, to the economic reactivation of these areas and to the creation of employment.

Accreditations and inscriptions

Accreditations can be collected at 08:30 hours at the starting point, along with the bag of supplies.
