Columbares Association and the Association of Artisanal Fishermen of the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata (Pescartes), in collaboration with the City of Mazarrón, presented this Friday at the Fish Market of Puerto de Mazarrón the "Fish with Art" campaign.
It is an initiative that informs the public of the social, environmental, cultural and gastronomic value of the artisanal fishing caught on the coast of Murcia and Almeria.
The activity also promotes the consumption of sustainable seafood products.
The project has the support of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, through the Pleamar program of the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund together with the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, in addition to the support of the University of Murcia and the Association Amureco.
This campaign contemplates the realization of a series of gastronomic demonstrations in restaurants and squares of supplies, informative days in fishmongers and educational itineraries with the aim of contributing to the conservation of marine biodiversity.
For the mayor of Mazarrón, Alicia Jiménez, it is a necessary initiative "as it tries to raise awareness about the need to preserve artisanal fishing and to consume responsibly, so that the best fish arrives in the best possible way at our table and through of the official channels for the benefit of the entire sector ".
Jiménez has been accompanied in the presentation, by Carmen Molina, responsible for Columbares and the councilors of Fisheries and Tourism, Isabel María López and María Ángeles Román.
The first activity of this campaign begins this weekend in Bolnuevo.
A gastronomic workshop for all types of people from 16 years old in an establishment in this fishermen's hamlet, where those who sign up will learn to cook a false tarta de melva from the bay.
