Mazarrón leads the decline in unemployment in the Guadalentín region (08/02/2019)

From 2016 to 2018, unemployment fell by 14% in the municipality.

The employment figures at the end of 2018 placed Mazarrón as the municipality of the Bajo Guadalentín region, which recorded the largest decrease in unemployed people.

From December 2016 to December 2018 unemployment fell in the municipality by 14%, from 2176 unemployed people to 1872. The percentage of year-on-year variation fell by 8.64% from December 2016 to December 2017 and a 5, 85% from December 2017 to December 2018. In addition, at the end of last January 122 fewer unemployed were registered, thus breaking the trend of previous years, according to the data collected in the CIME.

These data have been highlighted at a press conference by the mayor of Mazarrón, Alicia Jiménez, who stressed that "the good trend that leads to Mazarrón to figures similar to 2008, before the start of the crisis." These data encourage to continue working for to offer alternatives and job opportunities for those who are still unemployed, "said Alicia Jiménez.

Exponentially also increased the Social Security in the municipality from 9,517 in October 2015 to 11,092 in September 2018. Contracts increased reaching 1,387 contracts in December 2018 and 1756 in the month of January.

For the mayor, Alicia Jiménez, these data come to corroborate "the good work of the government team supported by the professionalism of the employment technicians of the City Council.

The council of Employment and Local Development, María Ángeles Román, has influenced the importance of the employment projects developed by the Department.

The mayor has detailed more than a dozen actions divided into five different programs aimed at achieving the labor insertion of the Mazarron.

Among these actions, the mixed employment and training program 'Garum' stands out, which has allowed its students to obtain the Restaurant and Bar Operations Professionalism Certificate with the aim of inserting young people into Youth Guarantee, qualifying them and bringing them closer to the work reality.

This project had an investment of 117,871 euros.

María Ángeles Román has also highlighted the agent and local development and youth guarantee programs, as well as extracurricular practices with investments of 90,000, 36,000 and 310,000 euros, with municipal and subsidized contributions.
