The ´Camonmar3´ project highlights the marine biodiversity of Mazarrón Bay (24/09/2019)

An activity that belongs to the project 'Camonmar3' for the "optimization of information for the improvement of marine spatial planning in the canyons of the Escarpe de Mazarrón, Seco de Palos and Campo de Cráteres (pockmarks) and advances in the knowledge of the activity bottom trawling, artisanal and recreational fishing in these areas, "explained Professor Francisca Jiménez of the University of Alicante.

A total of 25 participants dived in Mazarrón Bay waters snorkeling to "know the marine biodiversity that houses the beaches of the municipality and access the seabed from another approach," said Jiménez who was accompanied by Professor Mercedes Varela who He added that "this is how we value these beaches that people do not perceive as an important area of ​​biodiversity on a day-to-day basis, but as simply a place of leisure."

Also present were the Councilors of Services of the Coast, Raquel Raja, Youth, Silvia García, and Sports, Francisco José García, who welcomed the participants.

The activity is an initiative of the University of Alicante that has the support of the Biodiversity Foundation, the Ministry for Ecological Transition, through the 'Pleamar Program', co-financed by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (FEMP);

and the collaboration of the City Council of Mazarrón.
