Jay Buckley presents his "Flaming Flag" in an act that was a party-plea for diversity (28/02/2020)

Jay Buckley, the young British-born author based in Mazarrón, presented his book 'Flag on Fire' at the Cultural Center.

Buckley, before a large number of attendees, explained that in the book he describes how he faced harassment, loss or betrayal to which he has been subjected by his sexual orientation.

In this way, the young man makes in his work a plea against discrimination and social inequality, especially that suffered by the LGTBI collective.

Among the attendees were the mayor of Mazarrón, Gaspar Miras, the Councilor for Education and Archive and Libraries, Conchi Aparicio, and the Councilor for Equality, Miguel Ángel Peña;

who participated in the event explaining when and how they had met the young man, as well as showed their full support to the author to continue fighting against social injustices caused by discrimination based on sex, race or sexual orientation.

The councilors Plácida Gómez, Raquel Raja, Francisco José García and Salvador Sánchez also went to Buckley.

as well as members of the regional policy and the Mazarronera society such as the General Secretary of the PSRM-PSOE and spokesman of the Socialist Parliamentary Group, Diego Conesa, the vice president of the Red Cross of the Region of Murcia, Maite Gómez, the socialist regional deputies Alfonso Martínez Baños and Magdalena Sánchez Blesa;

and the president of the Red Cross Mazarrón, Carmen Navarro, among other personalities.

The presentation was a real party in which the interventions of the young man's friends were not lacking, as well as various performances that were carried out by the Barcelona artist Almacor, the Batukada Fatiku Afro Samba, the local artist Jage with an original theme of the book and the drag International queen Magenta Slipperz, who put music and rhythm to the presentation that ended with the signing of books by the author.

In short, the presentation became a great party-allegation of diversity in which personal experiences were not lacking, both of the author and his relatives and friends, and the defense of freedoms and against the aggressions suffered by many people for their sexual orientation or who simply fight against the social injustices of today.
