The Club de Regatas de Mazarrón has hosted this Thursday the presentation of the Bay of Mazarrón VIII Regatta, a sporting event already consolidated in the regional cruise calendar to be played, in two races, on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 May.
The competition was presented by the mayor of Mazarrón, Alicia Jiménez and by the President of the Club de Regatas de Mazarrón, José Hernández, together with the Councilor for Sports, Patricio Sánchez and the sporting director of the competition, Pedro Juan Pérez-Castejón.
The mayor highlighted "the tourist projection of a test that brings together, during a weekend in Mazarrón, the best participants of Andalusia, Murcia and Valencia."
José Hernández, president of the Club de Regatas, thanked "the collaboration of the City Council and its commitment to the nautical sport and promotion of tourism in the Bay of Mazarrón".
Around 40 large yachts will meet at the Club de Regatas to play the two scheduled races that will take them to travel 13.8 nautical miles from the waters of the Bay of Mazarrón, from Cueva Lobos to La Azohía, being a travel conditioned by the weather conditions of sea and wind, according to the organization.
The start times will be Saturday at 12:30 and Sunday at 11:00.
The direction of the competition will choose to bring the fleet to the coast and offer a good show, so that it can be visible from any point of the coast, as indicated by Pedro Juan Pérez-Castejón, who has indicated that "a good point to see this test is the south breakwater of the Racing Club ".
As on previous occasions, the sporting event will be accompanied by a program of social events with barbecue on Saturday night and giant paella for Sunday, after the celebration of the test and awards ceremony.
