The council restored the fountain in the Plaza Ramón y Cajal (07/07/2010)

The mayor of Mazarrón, Francisco Blaya, and Councillor for Infrastructure and Planning, José Antonio Román, with the Architect of the work, Rafael Pardo Prefasi, visited the restoration and renovation of the historical source of the Plaza Ramón y Cajal.

The project, which provides for the treatment of pavement, pedestrian and adequacy of parking, "is a respectful restoration work that the source remains the essence of what it was," as said Rafael Pardo.

According to sources from the Municipal Archives, "Ramón y Cajal Square called Plaza de Palacios until 1922, which was agreed to change its name at the request of the doctors of the town. The source, who is in this square, built in 1869 to provide water service to the people of Mazarrón. In the year 1892 is presented by Francisco de Paula Oliver Rolandi, architect and author of the Town Hall building, a project for sewer and paving the same and in the years nineties of last century it came to be restored by the City Council Workshop School Mazarrón.

"This project will promote the conservation of historic scenes of the town, being one with established custom and serving since the nineteenth century as a public source of water supply" according to statements by Francisco Blaya, during contact with the media.

This project, awarded to the construction company Mazarron 'Isavimo SL', contribute to the improvement and upgrading of one of the crucial pieces of the old town of Mazarrón.

The project, which will be ready in late summer, is valued at EUR 54,157.85 under the Plan E.
