The Department of Environment of the City of Mazarrón held for the second year 'Mazarrón in Green' environmental program.

Furthermore, Anse already started with 'June Environmental' last Sunday with a conference on the white-headed duck under the project 'Malvasia Murcia LIFE'.
Thanks to him, about 450 students from schools in Mazarrón have participated in educational activities during the 2013-2014 school year.
Including activities during the 2012-2013 school year, and the figure is 660 students.
Students received a briefing at its center and then made a start in which the facilities of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) of Mazarrón and guided tour in the wetlands of the mulberry trees were visited.
In the first place, they could observe the operation of the WWTP and meet water reuse that takes place in the town in other economic activities such as agriculture.
The discharge of treated water from brackish nature, which can not be used in agriculture to the Lake of the mulberry trees and now the former treatment plant lagoons, allows the existence of a great diversity of species of interest, including is the White-headed Duck.
The guided tour discovered the key values ​​and threats experienced by the area and the birds that inhabit this wetland, listed as Ramsar (Wetlands of International Importance) and recently declared SPAs;
and could be observed with the telescope the different birds that are found in the lagoons.
During the tour they met the LIFE Project Malvasia Murcia, and the main actions carried out in the municipality of Mazarrón.
The Environment Day, promoted by the UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) is celebrated on June 5 every year since 1973 in order to promote sustainable and equitable development, and engage citizens in environmental issues.
This year's theme is "Raise your voice, not sea level", focusing on the problem of climate change.
Wetlands are a key element in the control of greenhouse gases.

The LIFE 09/ES/000516. "Conservation of White-headed Duck in the Region of Murcia Spain", which ends this year, the project aims to ensure the conservation of the White-headed Duck and its habitat in three wetlands in the Region of Murcia: gaps Campotéjar (Molina de Segura), gaps mulberry trees (Mazarrón) and lagoons of Las Salinas (Alhama de Murcia).
It is funded with 75% by European funds and the Department of Environment of the City of Mazarrón is associated benefit of actions "D.1. Outreach in schools and social organizations" and "D.2. & Information Awareness Program sectors of the local population ", in the municipality of Mazarrón, being developed by the Association of Southeastern Naturalist (Anse).
In addition, the project involved coordinating beneficiary as DG Environment and other partners as beneficiaries, the municipalities of Molina de Segura and Alhama de Murcia.
