Columbares and Mazarrón are committed to sustainable fishing (10/08/2014)

Two actions dramatized showed last Friday in two places, the profits of artisanal fisheries, as well as its benefits for the environment.

Morning Market Square of Puerto de Mazarrón hosted "The fish? With head thanks" a curious interpretation that caught the attention of customers at the time they made their purchase.

With this action theatrical actors did see the advantages offered by a responsible purchase.

And the afternoon, the ride Rihuete hosted the second day theatrical action.

"Fish with art" together smaller around a makeshift stage in which object theater with music and narration are combined.

Saturday was the turn for the kitchen.

The El Puerto and Galayos hosted two workshops dedicated to traditional recipes and tasting a dish made with products that originate from industrial fishing.

About thirty people participated in this activity in which they were instructed about the importance of consuming products that respect the marine biodiversity.

Among those who wanted to support this initiative highlighted the Councillor for Agriculture, Magdalena Mendez and Social Policy Councilwoman Maria Martinez.

Finally it was shown successfully in the Market Square of Puerto documentary "Mar de fons" a brief history of Catalan sailors saga for centuries devoted to an office to be weak, the craft of fishing.

A talk, which intervened Environment Councilman David Fernandez, later served to discuss the content and the message it brings this film.

The whole activity was completed with a photographic exhibition.

PescaSos is an initiative of the Association Columbares, financed by the European Fisheries Fund and the Biodiversity Foundation to contribute to the conservation and sustainable exploitation of fisheries resources and the economic development of areas of Murcia and Almeria coastline with high environmental value and tradition fishing.

Its actions include the launch of an awareness campaign in order to promote the role of traditional fishing and marine reserves in conserving marine biodiversity and fisheries resources, forming responsible consumers who value quality artisanal fishery products.

A campaign that is aimed at the local population and visitors to the different points of coast chosen.

Mazarrón Town Council and the University of Murcia collaborate with this project.
