ANSE shows simple farming techniques to use nature as an ally (27/08/2014)

The Association of Southeast Naturalist this week taught a course at Cañada de Gallego bringing new indications for farmers to achieve more sustainable design and integrated systems in nature.

"Organic farming is the most advanced, while chemical always ends in a dead end."

It is one of the messages you hear a dozen farmers attending this course and know from experience that it is true.

Introduce simple techniques to use nature as an ally and show the value they have some native varieties are two of the goals it has set ANSE this training activity is part of Farmers Project By Nature, framed within the program Empleaverde Biodiversity Foundation.

The course is funded with European money, which has allowed the registration is free for its participants who are mostly of Mazarrón, but also assist students from other parts of the Region of Murcia.

The theoretical part is completed with a practice in an organic farm and a visit to a small orchard where citrus varieties that have disappeared.

Carmen Martínez, ANSE technician, recalls the importance of local varieties, especially in today's time when crop diversification is very important.

ANSE farmers and technicians have been visited by the Councillor for Agriculture Hall of Mazarrón, Magdalena Mendez, who reminded them that the farmer Mazarrón has already started to become aware of this dynamic.

"It is becoming an integrated struggle is respecting other fauna and progresses quite in sustainable agriculture, recovery of old varieties and the protection of the environment," stressed Mendez.

One of the theoretical charge of giving talks is Ramón Navia, agricultural engineer and independent consultant ANSE, who is very important to biodiversity from monocultures.

Navia further emphasizes the vital need for reforestation with native plants to encourage a change of scenery and to also reduce the number of pests.
