One hundred divers involved in clearing funds network of marine guards (25/10/2015)

Throughout the weekend, divers thousand scattered in different parts of the Spanish coast participate in the Great Cleansing Funds organized by the Red Sea Rangers.

It is an initiative of the NGO Oceánidas, developed with the support of the Department of the Marine Environment of FEDAS, Spanish Federation of Underwater Activities.

It is composed mostly of divers who, voluntarily engage in the conservation of species linked to the sea through protection work, research and dissemination of the marine environment.

In Murcia, this initiative has been carried out on Saturday in Mazarrón, three beaches (Alamillo, Rihuete and Bay) and five diving spots delimited (bass, Paco Island, Cala del Faro, and Bay Harbor breakwater Chica).

The results, according to sources FEDAS were "spectacular, as they have removed 450 kilos of waste, among which are packaged, plastic bottles and cans, as well as some objects such as a shopping cart or two tables plastic objects besides curious, are also contaminants. "

The dive center East-Bachisub, Cristalsub and the Friends of Nature have collaborated on this initiative with the Department of Environment of the City of Mazarrón.

Maria Isabel Lopez, Councillor for the Environment has been supporting the volunteers in this initiative that throws a very clear message and respect the ecosystem.

Along Lopez also wanted to be present the Councillor for Tourism, Maria Angeles Roman.

Institution, diving clubs and associations are a link in a national chain that aims not only removal of harmful waste to the environment, but also gathering information about the location and categories thereof.

This is being done with the Platform Marnoba, a free mobile application, developed by the 'Zero Discharge' Association with which divers, swimmers, fishermen and citizens can record data on waste found on our shores and have that information available to all stakeholders, including the scientific community.

Despite the numerous international conventions and state and regional laws that ensure the health of our seas, waste continue to affect harmfully to numerous species and ecosystems.

Therefore, public awareness and involvement of those who have access to what is on the seabed, including scuba diving enthusiasts have a key role is necessary.

Hence the rapid draft that had the Red Rangers Marine Environment between the community of divers.
