The Minister stressed that the plan also includes "improving the state of water bodies, particularly the Mar Menor and the coastal waters of the Mediterranean Sea as well as the improvement of infrastructure financing systems of sanitation and water treatment and the promotion R & D in the field of sanitation and treatment. "

Investments and treatment plants and pumping stations

As reported by the Autonomous Community, the minister explained that the actions "will be carried out over ten years and will focus on making investments to expand and improve treatment facilities and treatment systems on the one hand and in connecting population centers with small treatment systems or sewage treatment plants, on the other ".

The first set of proposals is the expansion and improvement of sewage, which provides increased flow rates and charges, the incorporation of tertiary treatment, duplication of lines or sludge treatment and infrastructure renewal.

The purpose of this first section is to improve the purification and sanitation of a population of about 1.3 million, with a proposed budget of 135 million euros.

The second group of works includes investments collectors for integrating small urban agglomerations, so as to achieve a hundred percent of connected urban centers and small stations Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP).

These works will benefit 17,000 inhabitants, with an investment of 645 million euros.

The region has a treatment system consisting of 90 treatment plant, more than 5,700 km of collectors and 470 pumping stations Wastewater (Ebara).

This network debugging represents an investment of 42 million euros since 2002.

99 percent of inhabitants of core urban population is connected to purification systems, with an annual volume of treated water of 110 cubic hectometres, of which 52 percent goes directly to its use for irrigation and is used by irrigators in 32 municipalities through concessions.

The rest of the treated water is discharged into the river as ecological flow and is indirectly used by irrigators.

The analytical parameters indicate that water treatment plants is quality and is well above the requirements of the European directives that marks the effluent quality, which implies higher quality requirements in the purification treatment.
