Art mining and abstract paintings in the town hall of Mazarrón (14/11/2008)

Next Thursday, November 20, at 20:00, John Luke opens a double exhibition of drawings and paintings for the exhibition and cultural space of the town hall of Mazarrón.

John Luke was born in a mining town in northwestern England.

The result of his life in this environment was translated into a unique collection of paintings and drawings on mining have been exhibited all over the UK.

The interest raised by his work was to conduct a limited edition reproductions of cards that were sold in Durham County Library in department stores like John Lewis "and in several mining museums in Yorkshire and Durham.

John studied at Sunderland College of Art from 1960 to 1964 and won the National Design Diploma.

In 1983, won the New Design Diploma in Education.

From 1964 he taught at various art schools and institutes in County Durham, during which time he alternated his work as a professional artist illustrator with visual perspective in the office of architects "Diplok in London, participating in remodeling of the British Telecom Tower "and the new" British Telecom builing "in Brindey Place, Birmingham.

While developing his work as an illustrator in the department stores of Oxford Street in London and other commercial spaces.

His career spans the UK, both individually and in groups.

Evidence of his work can be found in the book "Shafts of Light" by Bob McManners and Gillian Wales.

The English artist moved to Spain with his wife June in 2002 and has since created numerous paintings on the town of Mazarrón.

An example of his work can be found in the village of Glens of Romero Mazarron where he has exposed, permanently, a large mural of bullfighting.

The exhibition opens in the building of the town hall of Mazarrón is divided into two sections, located in the basement, a collection of abstract drawings on the second floor and walls filled with figurative art mining.

His production around the mine give prominence to the architecture, being present in certain forms of abstract compositions and allowing design in this framework consistently.
