Two large collectors avoid flooding in the city center and Bahia de Mazarrón (20/01/2009)

The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, and the mayor of Mazarrón, Francisco Blaya, today visited the works of two great collectors of rainwater collection, located in the center of Mazarrón and the Management Area of Bahia, Puerto de Mazarrón, which disposed of rainwater and avoid flooding.

The owner of Agriculture said during his visit that this work "to solve a structural problem in the county, which had a deficit of collection system and drainage."

The implementation of both projects exceeds two million euros financed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Water under the Community budget.

The works for the general collector for rainwater de Mazarrón, located between the streets of Pine Avenue Boquera and mulberry trees, covered "a large pipe of over 1,200 meters through the municipality's urban core," explained Cerdá.

This pipe, with an investment of 938,000 euros, also collects rainwater from the secondary branches and is complemented by other actions such as collection and disposal scuppers to channel rain water "in an area which is flooded in storm season "he said.

The counselor visited the works that are being undertaken in Management Puerto de Mazarrón Bay to prevent flooding and improve water quality by reducing its salinity.

The works, which have a budget of 1.2 million, include improving the drainage of groundwater and the collection of rainwater through a collector of 132 meters and two pipes of 900 mm in width.

They also include the refurbishment of the collection channel, with a length of 470 meters and two rising mains and storm drain 100 and 400 meters respectively.
