The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, accompanied by the mayor of Mazarrón, Francisco Blaya, today inaugurated the Torre del Pinwheel after restoration work, which emphasized "the importance both as a cultural tourism is recovering heritage of this set. "
The project is part of the Master Plan for Infrastructure, accessibility and tourist facilities in the Bay of Mazarrón, in particular, the proceedings on Historical and Cultural Resources, with a total cost of 333,000 euros, of which 273,000 were funded by the Consortium Mazarron Tourism, which includes the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the City of Mazarron, and 60,000 euros through an agreement between the General Directorate of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity and Social Work 'La Caixa'.
The performance consisted of the consolidation, restoration and adaptation of the environment of the defensive towers of the windlass and Santa Isabel de Mazarrón, both declared a Cultural (BIC), in addition to improving the accessibility and layout of the environment as public space.
The first two phases, financed by the Consorcio Turístico de Mazarrón, consisted of interior and exterior restoration of the tower, as well as enabling a platform inside from which to appreciate the views of much of the municipality and the adequacy Cerro del Pinwheel landscape, making this space into a park in the heart of the town of Mazarrón.
The third phase, the result of an agreement between the General Directorate of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity and financed by the Obra Social "la Caixa", consisted of planting and irrigation system installation, among other actions.
