This morning the mayor of Mazarrón, Francisco Blaya, and the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, inaugurated the restoration of the Tower of windlass and environmental landscape adjustment.
It is a circular watch tower, dating from the year 1490 when the Catholic Kings authorized its construction, is declared as a Cultural and next to the fortress of the Castle of Los Velez.
The project, drawn up by architects Rafael Pardo Sánchez Prefasi and Severino Sicily, has consisted of three phases.
The first has been the restoration of the tower exterior and interior, as well as enabling a platform inside from which you can see the view of much of the municipality.
The second of the action has focused on the adequacy of the mountain landscape reel where the tower is located, so that this space becomes an urban park in the heart of the town of Mazarrón, from which you can see much of the municipality and the municipality.
The third phase has made the recovery of vegetation and replanting forests.
The restoration of the tower winch an investment of nearly € 340,000 of which approximately Consorcio Turístico de Mazarrón, made by the municipality of Mazarrón and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the City of Mazarrón, have contributed close to 280,000 euros and the rest of the Directorate General of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity through the Social Work of La Caixa.
To Blaya is "an important improvement of natural and historic heritage of the municipality which makes feasible their knowledge and enjoyment to all generations to come, opening this space to the public every day."
Also, the Mayor has also said that "this natural area will be revitalized with guided tours for citizens and tourists who wish to do so."
