Coinciding with the celebration of World Red Cross Day, the Local Assembly of Mazarrón, which in 2018 celebrates its 120th anniversary, commemorated this international date with an event that hosted Town Halls and in which the history of the NGO and its evolution were reviewed. in the town.
The mayor, Alicia Jiménez, highlighted "the important role that Cruz Roja plays in Mazarrón, especially thanks to its volunteer work".
At present, the Local Red Cross Assembly has 521 members in the municipality, 243 volunteers and 29 registered members in the Youth Red Cross.
The mayor recalled the annual agreement signed by the City Council with the NGO thanks to a grant of 132,000 euros.
The agreement includes actions of relief, emergencies and urgent health transport, mobilization of socio-health and psychosocial resources in case of activation of the Municipal Emergency Plan.
Carmen Navarro, president of Red Cross Mazarrón, recalled the beginnings of the NGO thanks to the work of Henry Dunant, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1901. Navarro announced the presentation next December of a book that will collect the future of the Local Assembly of Mazarrón that in 2018 celebrates its 120th anniversary.
In this project works the local historian Francisco Blaya and the illustrator Irene Iborra.
Both showed part of the work they carry out that will be released at the end of the year.
The act culminated with the delivery of a gift to those present, consisting of a historical photograph.
