That 16 of February of 1893 Mazarrón would write a sad page in the chapters of its splendid history of end of century XIX.
28 people lost their lives in an accident in their mines.
Soon the telegraphic messages sent to the whole world the bitterness that was lived near the Well María Elena.
Journals pages of regional and national circulation echoed, during time, of that disaster that lasted in the memory of all and especially of those who had in the mine the source of their sustenance.
125 years later that sinister is reflected in a documentary by Valentin Sarabia whose premiere was attended by the mayor of Mazarrón, Alicia Jiménez and the councilman of Culture, Pedro Martínez.
It is a virtual tour guided by Mariano Guillén, official chronicler of the Villa de Mazarrón.
Produced, with the collaboration of the Municipality of Mazarrón, by VM Producciones, has been included in the audiovisual series "Murcia, the Unknown Earth" and will soon be available, in its entirety, to be viewed on the Internet with the title "Mining Tragedy in Mazarrón "
Other collaborators have been Joaquín Abenza, director of "El último rungón" of Onda Regional and Juan Sánchez Calventus, technician of the team of Casas Consistoriales.
The photographs belong to Mariló Orenes and the archive of Francisco García Jorquera.
The documentary also tells the story of Pedro Sánchez Zamora, a retired miner.
Since 2016, every February the City Council has made a ceremonial act in memory of those killed in the tragedy of 1893 and of all those other workers who lost their lives or fell ill during the years of mining exploitation.
