The fishermen of Puerto de Mazarrón paid their traditional tribute to the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of the sea that was wrapped by thousands of people during an afternoon session that began with the Holy Mass in the fish market's quay and culminated with the maritime and terrestrial procession with a stop on the Paseo Marítimo before the expectation of the faithful, neighbors and tourists.
Full in the Lonja to witness the religious services with the presence of the Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Miguel Angel del Amor, accompanied by the mayor of Mazarrón, Alicia Jiménez and the senior employer of the Fishermen's Association, Manuel Sánchez, among other civil and military authorities.
The boat "Los Picones" had this year the honor of carrying the image of the Virgin during a trip that had to be modified due to the state of the sea, heading the boats to La Azohía and not to Bolnuevo, as usual.
Already on land the image was carried on the shoulders by fishermen from the fishing pier to the promenade where hundreds of people were waiting to see how the image was taken to the beach, entering a few meters into the water, offering beautiful prints.
The events organized by the Fishermen's Association on the occasion of the feast of the Virgen del Carmen began last Sunday with a concert at the Parroquia de San José offered by Paco Fernández del Amor. It continued on Monday the 16th with a Holy Mass and the transfer of the image to the Fish Market.
During the morning, the popular "cucaña" contest took place and in the afternoon the traditional acts took place.
The fishermen older than 85 years were honored by paying tribute to them for their activity over the years, as well as the doctoral work that a young man from the municipality has focused on fishing.
