The Municipal Government Board meeting in ordinary session this Friday has approved an Urgent Plan of Action against Illegal Roads Sale in Puerto de Mazarrón.
This was announced by the mayor, Alicia Jiménez, at the end of the meeting, after having previously outlined the details of the document with the local police councilor, Isabel María López.
In the last summers it had detected a growth of this activity that concentrates in the Marine Walk, causing losses and damages to retailers and neighbors of the zone, since in addition the concentration of people and the installation of illegal positions impeded the passage, constituting a danger that needed a solution.
Therefore, this Action Plan, points out the mayor, emerges as a matter of urgency with the objectives of: co-responsible to the administrations, promote responsible consumption, improve police action and coordination with the different security bodies, socially attend to the vulnerable people who are in need of exercising the activity, work for the guarantee of basic rights and provide the municipality's trade with instruments to prevent this phenomenon from harming their daily activity.
Specifically, the coordination with the other administrations will result in a weekly work meeting with the affected stakeholders and competent administrations.
Greater police control
Likewise, the City Council will maintain and intensify police pressure in spaces with more presence of unauthorized street vendors, as well as buyers.
A local police service order will be put in place to clarify the general criteria of police action in the area of ​​street vending, based on the legal principles of timeliness, proportionality and consistency, establishing a progressive gradation of police actions, depending on the of the scenarios and their potential conflict to guarantee the use of public space and coexistence.
The measures to be implemented contemplate encouraging the agents of the Local Police to achieve the goal of eradicating illegal street vendors in the municipality.
Social care for vulnerable people
The City Council will design a specific attention circuit with the objective of knowing and mitigating the situations of high vulnerability not detected and the personalized needs of the street vendors and an Accompaniment Plan will be offered by the Social Services for those people who are in irregular situation, guaranteeing registration in the different modalities and basic rights in access to health services, basic social resources, food needs, etc.
Regularization processes will also be streamlined, supporting the search for work and offering legal advice.
The change of economic activity will be motivated and information on the group of services available in the city will be improved.
Joint work with the actors involved
Taking into account the high complexity of the phenomenon of unauthorized street vending, the City will maintain different working meetings with entities and movements linked to the phenomenon;
spaces associated with trade and tourism;
economic and social spaces;
and security bodies.
The transversal work between the different areas of the City Council will also be intensified in order to offer a better response, as well as with other administrations involved
Promotion of responsible consumption
With the complicity of the merchants, the City will launch a communication campaign aimed at dissuading potential buyers from acquiring products that come from unauthorized street vending.
