The mayor of Mazarrón, Alicia Jiménez, indicated this Saturday that "the urgent plan
approved by the City Council against illegal street selling is a global measure in favor of citizen security, defense of local merchants and care for people in vulnerable situations who are forced to exercise an activity outside the law.
The measure includes "an increase in police action, the coordination of security forces and attention from municipal social services to know in a personalized way the situation of these vendors and offer them the resources that these people require in each of the cases "
The Urgent Plan of Action against Illegal Street Sale was approved by the Municipal Government Board.
The document states that in recent summers there has been an increase in this activity that is concentrated on the Paseo Marítimo, causing losses and damages to merchants and residents of the area, since in addition the concentration of people and the installation of illegal posts prevented the step, constituting a danger that needed a solution.
Therefore, says the mayor, the plan was born as a matter of urgency with the objectives of: jointly responsible to administrations, promote responsible consumption, improve police performance and coordination with the different security bodies, socially serve vulnerable people who see themselves in the need to exercise the activity, work for the guarantee of basic rights and provide the municipality's trade with instruments to prevent this phenomenon from harming their daily activity.
In order to carry out this action plan, a line of productivities is contemplated both for citizen security personnel and for Social Services and Trade personnel.
Specifically, the coordination with the other administrations will result in a weekly work meeting with the affected stakeholders and competent administrations.
The plan also includes a campaign to promote responsible consumption.
