The City of Mazarrón will expand from 15 to 20 the number of places in the Alzheimer's Unit and other dementias, a service, promoted by the Department of Social Policy, which is provided free of charge at the Municipal Center for the Elderly of Mazarrón.
Currently the Unit serves 15 users, it is expected shortly the resolution of a new contract in which the seats are expanded to 20, plus a speech therapy service, and an increase in the hours of support assistant assistance.
In order to improve the quality of service and reach more residents of the municipality that are in the mild or moderate stages of Alzheimer's disease or other dementias.
The objective of this unit is the care and integral stimulation of people with any type of dementia in mild or moderate phase and among its purposes is the improvement of the quality of life of the sick people and their family, the stimulation and maintenance of the physical, cognitive and functional capacities, as well as the development of the conserved capacities.
The team that works on this project also provides information, guidance and advice to family members.
It is currently constituted by the areas of Support Assistant, Psychology, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapy, Social Work and Management.
These services are offered from Monday to Friday from 10 am to 2 pm.
This Friday September 21 is celebrated the International Day of Alzheimer's.
