The cultural visits to the municipal cemetery of Mazarrón come back because of the holiday and holiday break that Holy Week offers and the consequent influx of more visitors to the municipality.
These routes show the architecture, the artistic currents, the history and the characters of a few years, between the XIX and XX centuries, which correspond to a golden and exciting time of the municipality thanks to the 'boom' of mining.
The visits (five in total) are one hour long and include a series of stops (antecemetery, autopsy room, tombs of the Rocío, nursery burial area and historical pantheons) to discover details of that moment of local history, to know one of the modern equipments that arrived with the new times, to show the symbolism of the funerary art that then traveled the Region of Murcia and to approach the biography of some of the neighbors (Filomeno Hostench, Rigoberta Samper, Juliana and Ginés Granados, Isabel Martínez Oliva, José Esparza Alcaraz) who rest in this cemetery and who starred in the social and economic life of that stage.
After the success of the two previous calls, the new programming, with the title of 'The municipal cemetery of Mazarrón: architecture, history and characters of a change of century', is organized on the occasion of the next Holy Week.
It includes five passes in Spanish on April 13, 14, 18 and 19, at 11 in the morning, and on April 17 at 5:00 p.m.
A maximum of 25 people can participate in each route, for which it is necessary to register in advance at the Tourist Office.
The meeting point is the cemetery door a few minutes before the visit begins.
The visit will be guided by Miguel Rubio, tour guide, journalist and author of the publication 'Mazarron between two centuries'.
