Yesterday was presented at the Fish Market of Puerto de Mazarrón one of the 4 coupons that the National Organization of the Spanish Blind (ONCE) will issue to promote the consumption of fish among citizens.
The event was attended by the mayor of Mazarrón, Gaspar Miras;
the territorial delegate of the ONCE in the Region of Murcia, Juan Carlos Morejón;
the general director of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Francisco González;
and the president of the Murcian Federation of Fishermen's Guilds, Manuel Ballesta.
Manuel Ballesta thanked the ONCE for having made this initiative because "it not only makes our work known, but also promotes health at a nutritional level with the consumption of fresh fish, in this case the sardine."
In this sense also pronounced Francisco Gónzalez who recalled that "the capture of sardines has always been linked to Mazarrón" and recalled the good data of fish catches that is throwing the fish market of Mazarrón, mainly sardines and anchovies.
For his part, Juan Carlos Morejón, highlighted that this initiative of the ONCE signed with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food;
will "promote the consumption of sardines among citizens thanks to 5 and a half million coupons and 20,000 workers of the ONCE".
These data will be repeated when the three remaining coupons of this series are issued, which are also presented together with several fishermen's associations from other parts of Spain, which will mean a total of 22 million coupons to boost fish consumption.
Finally, the mayor of Mazarrón, Gaspar Miras, highlighted the important value of this initiative "since it promotes the consumption of local products, while supporting the work of fishing activity as important in our municipality as in other points of Spain".
Miras took the opportunity to make himself available to the Fishermen's Association of Mazarrón and the General Directorate of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Autonomous Community "to make real the projects we have in mind for this term and which are aimed at give a greater boom, even if it fits, to the fishing activity as well as the patrimony that supposes for all the Mazarron ".
