Last Tuesday, July 16, Puerto de Mazarrón lived one of the most multitudinous and emotional celebrations that are remembered around the feast of the Virgen del Carmen.
It could not be otherwise, because this year the 'Star of the Seas' was recently named by the Bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, José Manuel Lorca Planes, as patron of Puerto de Mazarrón.
The day began with the transfer of the image from the parish of San José to the fish market, before making a stop at the headquarters of the Fishermen's Association for the popular greeting to the patron saint.
Once in the fish market, the picture was taken in the morning and, in the afternoon, the traditional mass celebrated by the parish priest of San José, Juan José Noguera, was held at the fish market attended by dozens of neighbors, tourists and personalities.
Among them, were present the national deputy of the PSOE, Juan Luis Soto, the popular senator, Domingo Segado, the regional socialist deputy, Fernando Moreno, the also regional deputy of Vox, Pascual Salvador and the acting councilor for Development, Patricio Valverde;
among others.
All of them received the welcome of the Mayor of Mazarrón, Gaspar Miras, who presided over the ceremony together with the first patron of the Fishermen's Association of Puerto de Mazarrón, Pedro Rodríguez,
The office began with a dance in honor of the Virgin of Carmen by the dance school 'Ana Ruiz' and, during it, the mayor Gaspar Miras and the first skipper Pedro Rodríguez, presented a plaque to the retired fishermen as a tribute to his work at sea.
These were Fernando Muñoz, Blas Muñoz, Francisco Raja, Juan Román and Sebastián Martínez.
After the mass, the 'Star of the Seas' was taken to the ship 'Ballesta Acosta' which was commissioned to take the maritime procession to the image first in the direction of Bolnuevo, where the traditional memorial tribute to the deceased fishermen was held, and then towards El Mojón beach.
Once the boats returned to the fish market, the Virgen del Carmen was carried on the shoulders by the center of the coastal town.
Once they arrived at the promenade, the inauguration of the tribute sculpture to the fishermen of the Navarrese artist Lola Navarro was carried out, in charge of the own author and the mayor of Mazarrón, Gaspar Miras, the councilman of Culture, Ginés Campillo, and the parish priest of the Port, Juan José Noguera, who was in charge of blessing the monument.
Finally, among cheers to the Virgen del Carmen, the image was taken to the shore of the beach to enter the waters of the Bay of Mazarrón before returning to the parish of San José where it ended the one that has been the largest day ever before Celebrated in honor of the 'Star of the Seas'.
