Until November 17 Mazarrón participates in the #encestavidrio campaign promoted by Ecovidrio with 12 municipalities in the Region of Murcia and the support of the Autonomous Community.
The Councilor for the Environment, Plácida Gómez, and the Councilor for Services, Tomás Ureńa, presented the initiative with which the municipality opts “to remodel a sports court with recycled glass,” said Gomez, who added that “to get the a greater number of points, in addition to citizen collaboration recycling containers in the form of a basketball, we ask the media to promote this initiative. ”
The Councilor for the Environment explained that “the 5 containers in the form of a basketball are located in the Plaza del Convento and the Domingo Valdivieso school and institute area in Mazarrón, Plaza Toneleros and Puerto Health Center and the entrance to Bolnuevo. "
On the occasion of the Pilgrimage next Sunday, "the Department of Services will transfer to Bolnuevo two of the aforementioned containers" explained the mayor Tomás Ureńa who added on his part that "on the occasion of the Pilgrimage will increase the collection service in Bolnuevo."
Ecovidrio, the non-profit entity responsible for the management of the recycling of glass container waste deposited in containers throughout Spain, with the collaboration of the Basketball Federation of the Region of Murcia, have launched this new campaign that seeks to relate healthy lifestyle habits, such as sports, with other healthy habits for our planet, such as glass recycling.
The objective of this initiative is to increase the amounts of glass containers that are collected in the igloos, raising awareness of the importance of recycling, while promoting the practice of basketball and the values ​​that this sport has associated such as companionship, Collaboration and teamwork.
At the end of the campaign, those municipalities that have collected more glass containers in these particular igloos and have spread the campaign better, will be rewarded with the reform of one of their municipal tracks with recycled glass material, the first of these characteristics that will be in the region.
Basketball is a sport where teamwork, coexistence and solidarity are fundamental.
These are values ​​shared by recycling, where only among all of us can we preserve the environment and save the planet.
According to the latest available data for 2018, the citizens of the Region of Murcia recycled a total of 25,363 tons of glass containers.
This means that each inhabitant recycled an average of 17.2 kg of glass per inhabitant.
As for the rate of containerization, the Region of Murcia has a total of 7,233 containers installed, so there is one container for every 204 inhabitants.
