The Department of Animal Welfare of the City Council of Mazarrón has launched the 'Put the Chip' campaign with which citizens are informed of the obligation that their pets, dogs and cats mainly, possess this device as indicated by the municipal ordinance that collects Law 6/2017 of the Region of Murcia.
The councilor delegated of the area, Silvia García, has warned that "it is an obligation by law and not complying with it can carry penalties of up to 300 euros."
Garcia highlighted the advantage of this device because "in case of loss of our animals, it is an easy way to locate them."
In fact, the councilor has acquired two chip readers that she has handed over to the Local Police so that in the event that the agents find a lost animal, they can quickly know who it belongs to, its phone number and the address of the animal , without waiting for the intervention of a veterinarian.
In this sense, the sergeant of the Local Police, Alberto Zomeño, has praised the idea of the Department of Animal Welfare because "these new technical means will facilitate our work and compliance with the rules on domestic animals in a very agile way" .
Zomeño also stressed that the Local Police will begin next year to carefully monitor the collection of excrement "and we hope that we do not have to act in a repressive manner and not resort to fines for not keeping our streets, sidewalks and gardens clean."
The councilor recalled the rest of the obligations of all pet owners.
Dogs always tied and, if dangerous, with muzzle.
Collection of excrement.
Care and vaccines.
García has pointed out that "if we cannot comply with them, it is best that we do not have an animal."
The councilwoman announced that with the new budgets more campaigns will be carried out.
Among them, implement the CER method (capture, sterilization, return) as a method to prevent the reproduction of feral cats.
