The Plenary Hall of Town Halls was the place chosen for the presentation of the book 'Lucía, la romi lorquina', a novel by Professor Luis Caparrós scheduled for the International Women's Day.
The presentation ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Mazarrón, Gaspar Miras, the Councilor for Equality, Miguel Ángel Peña, the Councilor for the Environment, Plácida Gómez, the Councilor for Services, Tomás Ureña, and the 'Woman Mazarronera 2020', María Concepción Ruiz .
Luis Caparrós, who despite visiting Mazarrón for the first time showed that he knows the history and idiosyncrasy of our municipality;
He explained the plot of his novel, the fourth he publishes after a trilogy of works on the Almoravid culture, highlighting that it is "a novel that pays homage to women but also to the countryside, to rural society" and is also " a song to life, love, beauty, nature and simplicity. "
It is a work that "will make those who read it reflect on the times we have lived."
The story reveals the life of a woman of the fifteenth and sixteenth century "and many will see that unfortunately we have not progressed as much as ever since."
For this reason, Caparrós took advantage of the theme of his novel to emphasize the fight against Gender Violence and the importance of continuing to celebrate Women's Day.
"This is a date that should never be forgotten. But not only women, because men also have to be on that important date for us to raise awareness and disappear this threat so wild and there are no victims of Gender Violence."
The author, who has also been mayor of Purchena (Almería) and member of various bodies of the Junta de Andalucía, lamented that "in the 21st century these events still happen. And that there are political leaders who do not want to call things for their name, it has to give us strength to continue in the struggle to achieve gender equality and the eradication of what Gender Violence entails. "
The mayor of Mazarrón, Gaspar Miras, thanked Caparrós for his deference to present his book in Mazarrón and predicted that "we will surely have him again for Mazarrón because you have left a mark on all of us who are here with your beautiful and accurate words" .
The first mayor congratulated the author, both for his work and for his speech in defense of equality between men and women.
