María Concepción Ruiz received the Mazarronera Woman Award 2020 yesterday during the central event of the 8-M program organized by the City Council of Mazarrón.
The distinction recognizes their commitment to people with disabilities, and with it their entrepreneurial work to achieve a secure future for their children.
The tribute took place in the auditorium of the Cultural Center of Mazarrón, enlivened by the saxophone quartet 'Entelequia'.
"Mother courage" is the pseudonym with which Concepción is known.
A mother who pursues an incessant struggle with her two children;
Jaime and Pablo.
As explained by the mayor of the municipality, Gaspar Miras, "in 2003, Concepción, became part of the Association in favor of people with disabilities (ASPADEM) and in those early years, it was when the first adapted vehicle "continuing" with his personal struggle to start the construction and opening of a residence for people with disabilities in Mazarrón ".
Likewise, the Councilor for Equality, Miguel Ángel Peña also pointed out the entrepreneurial work of Concepción, recognizing that "his battle is and will be a struggle from which we have all benefited and with what he leaves and will leave a better Mazarrón".
The struggle of Concepción is not only his, as she says "my voice will always be the voice of those mothers who fight for their children, and with that of all the women of this municipality."
Therefore, recognition was also given to all those women who have been named "Woman Mazarronera" in previous years, on the occasion of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of that act.
Remembering each of them, those "women whose name is a reference in our municipality and, some, beyond our geographical boundaries" as noted by the Councilor for Equality.
The mayor, the councilor of Equality and the first deputy mayor, Ginés Campillo, delivered a replica of the sculpture, original design of 'Armando Fundición', to each of the winners in the previous years.
The relatives of those who are no longer among us, also received the award in their memory.
For its part, Conchi Ruiz has thanked the municipality of the municipality and the various associations "for continuing to bring this recognition to the women of Mazarrón and therefore, having received this appointment in this 2020".
The Woman Mazarronera 2020 was excited to have received this award without fully understanding why she was deserving of it, because throughout her speech she mentioned that she shouldn't be there, "it should be my sister Tina who should be here " he pointed.
However, there is no doubt that she is more than deserving of this award, because she represents a strong woman, fighter, empowered, mother and worker.
Fight for the future of her children, because as she says "a whole mother thinks what will happen to her children when she is gone" and that is Conchi's primary objective, to ensure a secure future for her children.
He also dreams "even knowing that tomorrow I will wake up and see my children in a wheelchair again" with walking with them on the beach.
There are dreams that life and its challenges do not allow us to fulfill but there are others that, with work and effort, can be achieved, and without a doubt, Conchi will not cease until he obtains a residence for people with disabilities in Mazarrón.
On the other hand, yesterday's event also recalled the reason for the celebration of this act, through the manifesto of the 'International Women's Day' and the mayor's speech, Gaspar Miras, "because there are already 14 women murdered in Spain so far this year, because gender violence is real.
That is why in our municipality we work every day so that equality between women and men in Mazarrón is safe, "culminating in this way with the recognition of each and every one of the women present and surrounded by various councilors of the municipal corporation, the regional deputy Immaculate Lardín, as well as personalities of the social life of the municipality.
