The Brotherhood of San Juan Evangelista, organizer of the passionate acts of the Holy Week in Mazarrón this year, officially presented Bartolomé Francisco García Pérez (Mazarrón, 1977) on Saturday as a preacher of the Holy Week 2020. The president of the Cabildo de Cofradías and from the host brotherhood, Laly Agüera, highlighted the deep-rooted family tradition of the pregonero as a Christian and San Juan brotherhood.
He portrayed him as a man of faith who has collaborated with groups such as the Community of Life of the Loyola Center of Murcia, Prayer Groups of Taizé, or the Diocesan Youth Ministry.
García Pérez is an engineer of Roads, Canals and Ports, as well as a degree in Law and Environmental Sciences.
After a few years in the private sector, since 2004 his professional career is linked to the public sector.
He has worked for the Ministry of Agriculture and Water, first;
and in Development and Infrastructure, later, collaborating on regional projects such as the RM-2, RM-3 and RM-1 highways or the Murcia International Airport.
Currently, it serves the General Directorate of the Mar Menor.
Until 2014, he also worked as a professor at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena in the Degrees of Industrial, Civil Engineering and Mineral Resources and Energy.
The preacher recalled the emotion he has been feeling since, now a year ago, President Agüera proposed to be in charge of opening this Holy Week.
Likewise, he thanked all the mazarroneros for the trust placed in him and announced that his words on Saturday March 21 will rest on three axes: love, faith and hope.
"I am not a poet or writer (...), I will try from my experiences to encourage people to leave their homes to live Holy Week with fullness" confessed García Pérez remarkably excited.
The mayor of Mazarrón, Gaspar Miras, congratulated the preacher and appealed, from the institutional framework, to safeguard "one of our most beautiful traditions, to bring faith, devotion and culture to all corners of the municipality."
In this sense, the mayor Concepción Aparicio, representing the Department of Culture, proclaimed "the opportunity that each year presents us to celebrate our traditions, culture and folklore, to embrace and publicly demonstrate that we are Christians."
On the other hand, the parish councilor of San Andrés Apóstol and San Antonio de Padua, Antonio José Martínez, honored in his speech the memory of Rafael García Box, who was the first president of the council when, at that time, the board was known as Brotherhood of the Holy Chalice of the Precious Blood of Christ.
Once the presentation of the crier was finished, the Cabildo of Brotherhoods of Holy Week in Mazarrón presented the prizes to the winners of the VII children's drawing contest 'Pinta tu Semana Santa'.
An activity aimed at the smallest of the municipality, with the objective that they become aware of the importance of Holy Week.
And with this motivate the participation of the youngest in this type of events, since it is these who in the future will be able to follow the traditions of the municipality and in this way, do not miss the history of our Holy Week.
Specifically, the contest was aimed at those children who receive their First Communion in 2020 and for those who will receive it in the coming year.
Thus, the winners of this year of the VII contest have been Carlos Soria Jiménez and Keria Ariana Mendoza, thus receiving an award consisting of school supplies from the Navarro and Folder bookstores in our municipality.
The event was held in the cloister of the Parish Center and was enlivened by the ensemble of musicians of the Maestro Eugenio Calderón band under the direction of Ana Alarcón.
