The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia, thanks to citizen collaboration, has clarified in just a few hours the theft of a high-end bicycle in Mazarrón, an investigation that has resulted in the identification, location and arrest of the alleged author of the facts, as well as the recovery and return to its owner of the stolen bicycle.

The performances took place last week in Mazarrón, when the owner of a high-end bicycle informed the Benemérita of its theft on public roads in the town.

Once the Civil Guard officers specialized in Prevention of Citizen Security had verified the commission of the criminal act and gathered all the possible information about it, they established a search device on the stolen vehicle and its author.

Due to the social alarm created by the event, a rapid dissemination by social networks of the characteristics of the stolen bicycle originated, being an area with a large influx of practitioners of this sport.

As a result of this dissemination and thanks to citizen collaboration, the civil guards who made up the search device were alerted that a young man was on a bicycle with a similar characteristic in the outskirts of the town.

The civil guards quickly moved to the place indicated by the citizen and carried out a fight around the area, which allowed them to locate a young man who agreed with the physical description provided and who was carrying a bicycle with similar characteristics.

Once at his height, the suspect was told to stop and identify himself, but he fled in the immediate vicinity, having to start a chase that ended when he caught up with him.

The agents verified that he was the alleged perpetrator and arrested him for theft.

The civil guards also verified that the young man arrested also had a judicial requisition to find out his address and whereabouts.

After the presentation of the corresponding complaint by the person affected by the criminal act, the complainant observed that the bicycle presents a series of damages in its structure that were not recorded before the crime was committed and that allegedly occurred during the flight by the detainee, reason why the arrested person was also charged with the alleged authorship of a crime of damages.

The Moroccan detainee, 19 years old and resident in Mazarrón, the recovered effects and the investigative procedures have been made available to the Investigating Court of Totana (Murcia).
