| It is a home service through individualized care by different professionals to family units with dependent people | The Department of Social Policy of the Mazarrón City Council is working, for the first time jointly, with the Rare Diseases Association 'D-Genes' to launch a 'family respite' program.
A service that provides support to families who have functional dependents in their care and through a grant awarded by the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030. The family respite program tries to alleviate the effects of family overload created by the socio-sanitary crisis caused by Covid 19, and aimed at people in situations of dependency, disability and their families in the municipality of Mazarrón. Priority will be given to those users of the Day Centers for People with Disabilities, people with mental illness, the elderly, Alzheimer's Unit and students from the open classrooms of the municipality, as well as minors with special educational needs, or who go to special education centers of referral and, even when they are in a vulnerable situation, they have stopped receiving those services and resources with the intensity that they require, with the consequent weight that has come to the family unit or the main caregiver. The program has started this July and will run until December 31 of the current year in collaboration with the D'genes association, which already operates registered in our municipality with numerous users and partners. The Councilor for Social Policy, Miguel Ángel Peña, explained that "the Social Services Centers will assess the referrals of the different centers and professionals with whom they maintain coordination, as well as the requests that are presented in a particular way regarding the situation vulnerability and family socioeconomic situation.
" In this way and, with this new initiative that joins others already underway, the Mazarrón City Council intends to continue betting on family reconciliation, especially in this case affecting family units with people in a situation of dependency on the municipality.
Information and requests can be obtained at the Mazarrón Social Centers (968 339361) and Puerto (968 153313).
