| Mayor Gaspar Miras and the Councilor for Equality Miguel Ángel Peña have presented the prizes to the three winners of the contest this morning | This morning, in the assembly hall of Casas Consistoriales, the awards ceremony for the photography contest 'Mazarrón for equality' took place, organized by the Department of Equality together with the Center for Attention to Victims of Gender Violence (CAVI).
An initiative that was presented last month on the occasion of the celebration of LGTBI Pride.
The event was attended by the Mayor of Mazarrón, Gaspar Miras, the Councilor for Equality, Miguel Ángel Peña, and the Councilor for Citizen Participation, José María Moreno, accompanied by the CAVI team. The main objective of this campaign has been to make the municipality of Mazarrón participate as a pioneer free of Gender Violence and against Homophobia.
To give greater visibility, a photography contest has been carried out, free to all citizens, which consisted of taking a photograph together with the different signs with identifying messages and slogans located throughout the municipality. For his part, the Councilor for Equality Miguel Ángel Peña wanted to thank all the winners and participants "for the great reception of this campaign, their interest and commitment to promoting the idea we wanted, as well as the delivery of the CAVI team from the Department of Equality to make the objective of this campaign visible: to fight against homophobia and gender violence, making the municipality a pioneer in this type of initiative ".
After that, he announced the three winners of the contest and the respective prizes announced last June in the presentation of the activity. In this way, the first prize, which deals with a weekend for two at the Hotel Sosiego on a bed and breakfast basis, has been awarded to Pepi Blaya, who has starred in one of the most original photographs of the contest; in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, accompanied by the slogan "LOVE ALWAYS WINS", and a spectacular make-up with which it represents the LGTBI flag.
The winner of the contest explained that "with this photograph I wanted to reflect the freedom to which we all have the right; express ourselves without fear because being different does not make us less". The second prize, a diving baptism for two people in the Sureste Diving Center 'Bachisub', has been for Candela Pierna; a tender photograph on the beach of Bolnuevo pointing to the motto of "LOVE MAKES US THE SAME".
Last but not least, the third prize, a dinner for two at the 'La Vuelta' restaurant, went to Miriam Sánchez and Álvaro Navarro.
Both decided to pose next to the slogan "NO GENDER VIOLENCE", representing the figure of man and woman in order to give visibility to equality, because as they have explained "with this photograph we wanted to reflect that both genders must fight for the equality we deserve, because even if we think not, there is still a long way to go ". Mayor Gaspar Miras has stressed that "the important thing is that we do not lose sight of the slogans of this campaign launched by the Department of Equality, slogans that we must internalize against sexist violence and homophobia, but also against any type of violence, discrimination or injustice".
Likewise, he has stated that "it is our duty to create a more communal, more supportive and just society among all of us and that we move towards a better Mazarrón in which there is no room for any form of discrimination."
