The food market of Puerto de Mazarrón is one of the ten buildings selected by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness for inclusion in a study of commercial viability and remodeling proposal made by the public company Mercasa.

This improvement plan was announced by the Secretary of State for Trade, Jaime García Legaz.

Next to the food market of Puerto de Mazarrón, will be studied remodeling markets San Blas de Logroño, Martorell (Barcelona), Tafalla (Navarra), San Cristóbal de La Laguna (Tenerife), Central Elda (Alicante, G9 area of ​​Burgos, Vilanova de Arousa (Pontevedra) and Almuñécar (Granada).

The food market of Puerto de Mazarrón is located at Avenida Doctor Meca.

The building was donated to the town of Mazarrón in 1988 by the family of Jose Alarcon Palacios.

This square replaced the old market square of Puerto located on Main Street in what is now the Senior Center of Puerto de Mazarrón.
