Mazarrón City Council has developed a School Mediation Pilot Project aimed at improving the coexistence between equals in the three Secondary Schools in the municipality Domingo Valdivieso, Felipe II and Antonio Hellín.
The project, developed by the Department of Education and Social Policy, has lasted three months and was aimed at students aged between 12 and 16 years.
The initiative, carried out by a social worker in training, has encouraged students to resolve conflicts that may arise between them through the figure of a fellow student who has acted as mediator.
"In this way, students were better facilities to confess when a possible problem, preferring a partner as a confidant and not a teacher," said one of the mediators.
This week has been delivery of diplomas to the mediators who have participated in the project, in recognition of his work and involvement.
They note that most of the conflicts have found a solution among peers themselves.
"Those cases where the problem persisted passed the headteacher," sources have indicated the project.
The councilors of Social Policy and Education, Laura Ortiz and Patricio Sanchez highlighted the importance of this initiative that fosters fellowship and wellness among students, facilitating dialogue and curbing the problems that may arise during the course.
The activity is one more weapon to combat bullying.
