In the near future the Regional Assembly will debate a motion for the Regional Government to promote the declaration of Regional Tourist Interest for the Miracle Festivals.
For the mayor of Mazarrón, Alicia Jiménez, "this is a very good news for the municipality as it would boost one of the events with greater depth and with greater monitoring of neighbors and visitors."
The motion to be debated by parliamentary groups responds to a request from the mayor.
Francisco José Hernández, parish priest of the churches of San Andrés and San Antonio, also appreciates very positively this motion, since "Mazarrón also has the right to claim for his Sanctuary a declaration as other places in the Region already have."
The pastor has pointed out that the Miracle is a registered fact "are not legends, are statements collected and the Arab flag guarded in the Sanctuary."
The Fiestas del Milagro are celebrated around an event dated November 17, 1585, framed in the historical context of the frequent incursions of Berber pirates from North Africa.
These festivities have their most outstanding event in the Romería that every year leaves from the Sanctuary of the Purísima towards the hermitage of Bolnuevo, coastal hamlet on whose beach meet thousands of people to enjoy a day of coexistence by the sea in honor of the Patron of the Mazarroneros.
Isabel Mariana Ballesta, president of the archipelago of La Purísima and Andrés Pérez, member of the Virgen del Milagro Neighborhood Association, have congratulated themselves on this initiative, which they hope will receive the unanimity it deserves.
This has been expressed to the Vice President of the Regional Assembly, Domingo Segado.
