The Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment and staff of the Protection Service of Nature (Seprona) investigate since yesterday the causes why about 50 corpses of pigs have been abandoned in an isolated area belonging to a farm in the municipality Of Mazarrón.
Veterinary inspectors assigned to the Regional Agricultural Office of Fuente Álamo of the Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment have moved to the place where the bodies were found to make the corresponding investigations on the ownership of the abandoned animals and to order the removal of the cattle , Which is being carried out.
From the Ministry it is recalled that the burial or, as in this case, the abandonment of animal corpses from farms of supply, is a practice completely prohibited since the year 2002, date in which the Regulation (EC) 1774/2002 established The obligation to remove the corpses usually generated in animal production by authorized manager.
The inspection of the alleged farm origin of the animals has also revealed another series of anomalies, such as the detection of possible leachates originating from the rafts of collection and desiccation of slurry with which the facility has been installed. Of the information collected from the environmental body, in case it had to provide complementary actions to those already available.
The lack of management or an inadequate removal of corpses that could be generated in agricultural holdings is considered in the current Animal Health Law as a serious infringement, which can generate fines from 3,001 to 60,000 euros.
Likewise, evidence of irregularities in the productive structure of the farms (health infrastructure, veterinary identification requirements, animal welfare, medicines, among others) may also lead to the withdrawal of authorization for its operation.
