Users of the Alzheimer's Unit of the Day Center of Mazarrón carry out, this week, different activities together with technicians and monitors.
Last Monday, a social worker transmitted information about resources and services of the municipality directed to the elderly.
This Tuesday the fifteen users of this Unit celebrated Valentine's Day with workshops and activities and this Thursday, February 16 will be a new workshop, in collaboration with the social work "La Caixa", dedicated to the promotion of preventive behaviors and healthy habits that Improve the quality of life of users.
Also, they are already working on the preparations for the Carnival.
Support service for family and caregivers
The service of the Alzheimer's Unit and other dementias is totally gratuitous and it attends to 15 users in the municipality of Mazarrón.
Those who wish to use this service must be over 50 years of age, have a medical diagnosis, have no serious problems of mobility and possess a certain degree of autonomy.
To access a formal application must be submitted in the register of the City Council or the Mazarron Day Center with the social worker of the Alzheimer Unit.
The Unit aims to provide comprehensive care and stimulation of people with dementia with the work of a psychologist, a physiotherapist, a caregiver, an occupational therapist and a social-coordinating worker.
Professionals work to improve the quality of life of users and their families, stimulate and maintain physical, cognitive and functional capacities, enhance capacities not yet damaged by disease, avoid disconnection of the environment, strengthen social relations, provide Information and counseling, reduce stress and improve the psychophysical status of their caregivers and encourage leisure activities.
The Alzheimer's Unit schedule and other dementias is from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday.
