The deputy of the Socialist Parliamentary Group, Antonio Guillamón, denounces delays (waiting lists) in the care of the patients of Mazarrón, who not only occur in Specialized Care, but also in Primary Care.
The socialist deputy indicated that the concept of Primary Care excludes the delay or waiting lists in care, so beyond 24 hours would not be understandable said delay.
However, in places such as Mazarron, belonging to health area 2, this delay to be attended by the family doctor in primary care can reach 7 to 10 days in some cases.
Guillamón noted the aggravating circumstance that this coastal town has special conditions, given its geographical location (away from the nearest hospital), as well as the considerable increase in population experienced during times of high tourist incidence.
"They have a SUAP (only one) for 35,000 people, when other localities in the area, with a lower population index and better geographic location and with lower influx of patients in times of high incidence, have two SUAP teams."
The reason for the high delays in primary care in Mazarrón is due to the lack of hiring of medical personnel and nursing when any casualties occur: either due to illness, vacations or free disposal.
In these circumstances, professionals are forced to double queries and sometimes to triple them, which leads to delays or waiting lists in patient quotas in each professional.
"This situation should be avoided at all costs, as these delays cause patients to come to hospital emergency services, contributing to the collapse of them."
In the opinion of health professionals there are several alternatives among which stand out: First, the recruitment of personnel when there is a drop for whatever reason.
Another solution to reduce waiting times in Mazarrón would be to reopen the Health Center with morning and afternoon consultations with different professionals;
Or the possibility of returning to the so-called sliding shifts, that is to say, that each professional would go one day a week to pass consultation, also in the afternoon doing the urgencies, not only of patients of their quota, but those of other colleagues.
The third solution, which does not exclude any of the above, would be to return to home care when there are notices that require such attention.
In the case of Mazarrón, in addition, and due to its special geographical circumstances (away from the nearest hospital), it would be advisable to provide a 24-hour emergency service that was of medium resolution and included: RX for simple radiology, Laboratory, Family Physician, Internist, Pediatrician and Nursing staff to be able to solve urgent problems and stabilize them in the center before they had to be evacuated to the reference hospital if necessary.
Antonio Guillamón pointed out that this model had Benidorm before having his own hospital and Mazarrón is qualified for it.
"In this way, the unacceptable waits of these citizens of the Region would be avoided."
