The Ministry of Presidency and Promotion, through the General Directorate of Citizen Security and Emergencies, plans to increase this year the assistance for monitoring and rescue on beaches in the municipality of Mazarron, said this morning the general director of Public Safety and Emergencies, José Ramón Carrasco, to the mayor Alicia Jiménez.

This aid is part of the subsidies that the eight coastal municipalities receive within the Plan of Surveillance and Rescue in Beaches and Rescue in the Sea of ​​the Region of Murcia (Plan Copla) as an aid of the regional Administration for the maintenance of this service.

Thus, Mazarrón will have 16 beach surveillance posts, which will be attended daily by 36 people, between lifeguards and employers, during the high danger period of Plan Copla (July and August).

Less assistance, more prevention

The director of Citizen Security and Emergencies visited today, together with the mayor, the base in which is located the new rescue boat on beaches that the City of Mazarrón has arranged for this service, in the Bay Regatta Club.

José Ramón Carrasco highlighted the effectiveness of Plan Copla, which in Mazarrón closed 2016 with 2,987 attendances, 35.5 percent less than the previous year, of which more than 90 percent were small wound and first aid cures.

Carrasco highlighted the important prevention effort carried out by the regional administration in collaboration with the Civil Protection services of coastal municipalities.

In this sense, last July, during the weekends of July and August, volunteers of Civil Protection of these municipalities distributed in the main beaches of the Region 70,000 bottles of water in which had inserted a decalogue with recommendations for a bath insurance.
