The mayor of Mazarrón, Alicia Jiménez, who has accompanied the president of the state-owned company Agua de las Cuencas Mediterráneas (Acuamed), Francisco Javier Baratech, and the Minister of Agriculture and Water of the Region of Murcia, Francisco Jódar, during the visit they made to the Rambla de las Moreras at the mouth of Bolnuevo.
The dam will be built in the upper part of the rambla at a point between the electrical substation and the highest area of Camposol.
This infrastructure, whose economic status already appears in the general state budget, will fulfill two objectives: to prevent floods in the population of Mazarrón, especially Bolnuevo and Playa Grande, and to provide a quantity of water added to irrigators of the municipality, since The volume stored in the dam will be managed by the Segura Hydrographic Confederation to be used by farmers in Mazarrón.
Adjustable volume of 25 hm3
The future dam, in whose site Acuamed already works, will allow to derive volumes of floods in the Guadalentín river towards the ravine of Las Moreras in Mazarrón.
The purpose is to avoid the concentration of flow of avenue at the confluence of Guadalentín channeling Reguerón with the river Segura, next to the city of Murcia.
It is estimated that an adjustable volume could reach 25 hm3, which could increase Mazarrón's irrigated water that has reused water from waste water treatment, desalination and other communities of irrigators, but lack of Conventional resources.
