The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Javier Celdrán, met today with the director of the recently inaugurated Hotel Alegría Dos Playas de Mazarrón, Eduardo Barbagelata, and with the mayor of the municipality, Alicia Jiménez.
The new four-star establishment has 137 rooms and 350 beds (with a capacity of 550 people) to offer high-class hotel facilities in the Region, with three 5-star establishments and 41 four-star hotels.
During the visit to the hotel, whose main investor is Profusa (Grupo Fuertes), Celdrán recalled "the importance of coordinating among all, through public-private collaboration, actions to increase the quality tourist potential of the municipality of Mazarrón, whose beaches Have eight blue flags and six have the 'Q of Tourist Quality', which guarantees the cleanliness of water and sand and the quality of services.
Mazarrón received 34.4 percent more visitors in 2016 than in 2015, from 29,887 to 40,177, and overnight stays increased 41 percent, surpassing 100,000.
The growth occurred in both national and international tourism and the trend is maintained in 2017 with a progressive increase in the number of tourists.
Celdrán recalled that "it should be added that during last July the hotel establishments of the municipality registered a great increase, to 86 percent occupancy, the best historical record for the area during this period, and for August is expected an occupation Average of 90 percent. "
In total, Mazarrón has 5,409 places of regulated accommodation of all types, 18.7 percent more places than at the end of 2016. This increase has contributed to the fact that the holiday accommodation in the municipality has increased from 76 to 183, Thanks to the campaign of inspection and classification of the offer by the Institute of Tourism, "the Tourism Minister added.
Celdrán said that "the implementation of infrastructures such as the two new greenways that we have inaugurated today, increased supply and the arrival of various operators to the municipality in recent years has impacted and will continue to contribute to increase tourism employment" .
In this regard, this year will reach the municipality 4,360 travelers (30,000 overnight stays) through programs with Czech, French and Danish operators.
In this sense, the counselor highlighted the "significant increase of people employed between 2015 and 2016 in the municipality, 7.7 percent", as well as the growth in the number of hotel contracts, almost 10 percent.
"This positive trend has skyrocketed in the first months of 2017, as the number of contracts in this segment grew and in this locality, 24.3 percent," he added.
Regional tourist offer
The Region has 4,578 regulated establishments and a total of 55,794 places among hotel accommodations, apartments, holiday homes, campsites and rural areas.
Specifically, it has 214 hotels and more than 20,500 places.
Since 2014 they have opened seven hotels, such as La Torre Golf Resort, Doblemar de La Manga or Hotel Portman.
These new openings, assured Celdrán "strengthen a scenario of modernization of the hotel plant that began to be drawn two years ago."
He also highlighted "the great work done from the Institute of Tourism of the Region of Murcia at the time of promoting the region among foreign investors."
The tourism minister added that "this good situation in the Region has contributed to the recovery of the sector, to be an increasingly less seasonal destination, the implementation of fiscal incentives, administrative simplification services and major events such as Celebration of the Jubilee Year ".
