The Councilor for Family and Equal Opportunities, Violante Tomás, together with the mayor of Mazarrón, Alicia Jimenez, visited today the day center for people with intellectual disabilities in the municipality.
During the visit, he emphasized that the Murciano Institute of Social Action (IMAS) finances with more than 437,000 euros the services for people with disabilities in this municipality.
Of the total amount, € 104,335 is earmarked for the center for early childhood development and care, which has 240 users, and € 333,000 for the 34-day center for people with intellectual disabilities.
The Governing Council approved at its meeting yesterday the extension of five seats to the agreement signed between the Ministry of Family and Equality of Opportunities, through the IMAS, and the City of Mazarrón for the provision of service in this center.
With the addendum, this service will go from having 29 to 34 places subsidized.
The center provides assistance services in basic activities of daily living, transportation and maintenance.
In addition, it develops intervention programs at personal, social, family and occupational level, as well as counseling services to the user and their family and prevention.
One of the objectives of the day care center for people with intellectual disabilities is to maintain and improve personal autonomy, basic activities of daily living, routine learning and the quality of life of these people.
Violante Tomás recalled that "as far as the legislature goes, the Community has created 373 places for people with disabilities in residential care, day care and promotion of autonomy."
Likewise, the IMAS allocated 162.808 euros to finance 20 places in the day center for senior citizens of Mazarrón.
In addition, 64 people receive the tele-assistance service.
