UMU students complete 300 hours of curricular practice in the Social Services of Mazarrón (17/10/2017)

The City Council of Mazarrón through its Department of Social Policy and the Faculty of Social Work of the University of Murcia have renewed the collaboration agreement that allows UMU students to perform their curricular practices in municipal social services.

The act of renewal has had the presence in Mazarrón of the dean of the School of Social Work, María Paz García-Longoria and the deputy dean, Antonia Sánchez.

The Councilor for Social Policy, Laura Ortiz, stressed the importance of this program of practices as well as the willingness of the municipality to be carried out productively.

"An example of the fruits that has been giving this agreement, for more than ten years, we have in the fact that some of the students who participated in the curricular practices of the Faculty of Social Work are working today for the City Council of Mazarrón, "said Laura Ortiz.

During the academic year 2016-2017, two students of the Faculty of Social Work of the University of Murcia conducted the Curricular Practices in the Center of Social Services of the City of Mazarrón, together with students from Almería and UNED.

And for the 2017-2018 course, there are currently two students who are doing the curricular practices in the municipal centers of Social Services of Mazarrón and Puerto.

These are 100 hours of curricular practice to be done in the morning shift, on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

The students are accompanied at all times by their tutors, in this case by Concepción Mateo and Cristina Ferrer, both social workers of the City of Mazarrón.

To these practices are added those of the students of the masters, focused as mediators in the IES Antonio Hellín of Puerto de Mazarrón and the extracurricular practices that are developed in collaboration with the CIME of Mazarrón.

The Social Work studies have been 100 years since its beginnings in the United States and 25 years since they are carried out in a regulated manner in the Region of Murcia.

The dean of the School of Social Work, María Paz García-Longoria, has also highlighted in Mazarrón the importance of the research facet of these studies as an argument for future political decisions related to this field.
