From this Monday until next Thursday Mazarrón hosts the international congress "The century of the Immaculate (1550-1650) - The Iberian worlds in their golden age."
Event organized by the Columnar Network and the University of Murcia in collaboration with the Town Hall of Mazarrón and the Museo Factory Romana de Salazones.
The appointment that welcomes Mazarrón is framed in the historical context of the year 1617 when the Spanish Monarchy faced a stage of redefinition.
He did so by adopting a determined policy of affirming his particular relationship with the Immaculate Conception.
From the Crown to the nobles, from the Cortes de Castilla to the town halls and the universities, they all swore to defend that mystery that soon became law in Europe, America and Asia.
But what kind of monarchy was it that needed to have to make explicit its adherence to a cult that had not yet been accepted by the whole of Catholic Christendom?
Defining it, understanding it, studying it in its various facets is the task of this international congress that is organized within the framework of the activities of the 2017-2018 Biennium The Monarchy and the Immaculate, which take place between Mexico, Spain, Italy and France.
This congress maintains the essence of organized in 2012 under the title Felipe II and Almazarrón (1572).
The local construction of a global empire, as well as the Permanent International Seminar on Studies on the borders of the Iberian and Mediterranean Worlds, which will be the sixth edition.
Open to communications, these affect the topics proposed in the five plenary sessions that structure them, being able to deal with these problems applied to the territories of the Hispanic Monarchy and its neighborhoods in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
In this framework an event is defined that is also organized by the University of Rome TRE and that has a wide collaboration of administrative bodies and university entities.
