The Regional Assembly of Murcia has approved this Thursday in plenary the motion of "I support the Declaration of Regional Tourist Interest of the Feast of the Miracle of the Purísima de Mazarrón" presented by the deputy of the Popular Parliamentary Group, Mónica Meroño.
The motion has had the unanimous support of all the political groups with representation in the autonomic hemicycle.
Alicia Jiménez, Mayor of Mazarrón, stressed "the importance of this new step in the path of the Declaration of Tourist Interest of a party very rooted in the municipality and also help to deseasonalize the presence of visitors, with the consequent benefit that has for local development. "
The mayor has headed the delegation of Mazarron in the Assembly together with the parish priest of San Andrés and San Antonio, Antonio José Martínez.
They have also witnessed the debate, councilors of the municipal corporation and representatives of the Archconfraternity of the Purísima Concepción.
In her motion, Monica Meroño recalled that "the Bolnuevo Pilgrimage has its origin in the sixteenth century when a miracle of the Immaculate Conception saved the town from one of the numerous Berber pirate raids that took place at that time."
The popular deputy has highlighted "the great reception that this cultural and religious manifestation has among the inhabitants of Mazarrón and its surroundings, leading thousands of pilgrims to accompany the Virgin on her way back to the Hermitage of Bolnuevo every year" .
Mero Meroño has pointed out that "the Romería del Milagro is a symbolic and festive act that has been gaining relevance in the field of festivities, which can be considered as the most participatory event of all those held in the town, not only because of the majority attendance of the village, but by the massive arrival of visitors from nearby towns who have also made it their own ".
The regional deputy has considered in his request that "it is a fair recognition and a way to promote and deseasonalize tourism in Mazarrón."
