The spokesman of the Socialist Parliamentary Group, Joaquín López Pagán, the deputy spokesman, Alfonso Martínez Baños, together with the socialist municipal spokesman in the City of Mazarrón and the general secretary of Mazarrón have denounced in a press conference the health situation endured by the inhabitants of the municipality of Mazarrón.
This week, the Regional Assembly has approved, with the abstention of the PP, a motion of the Socialist Parliamentary Group in which he claimed a High Resolution Center nearby hospital- for the area, as these citizens are forced to go at least 40 kilometers, having to travel to the hospital Santa Lucia, in Cartagena, every time they have to be attended by a doctor or specialist.
The socialist spokesman said that this visit has wanted to see how much the PP is concerned about the vital needs of citizens in this area of the Region in the field of health.
"We find inadmissible the difficulties that these patients have to overcome to move to a hospital in Cartagena to be attended and the Popular Party and the mayor of Mazarrón should take good note of it."
He recalled that the Municipal Socialist Group presented this same initiative before the Plenary Session of the City Council, but the PP rejected it.
López Pagán welcomed the proposal of the Socialist Parliamentary Group to go ahead and urged the regional government to start up the hospital in the shortest possible time.
In this regard, he complained that Valcárcel promised in 2009 the commissioning of the High Resolution Center and did not comply with it.
"This demonstrates what the PP cares about the welfare of the citizens of some areas of the Region."
The Socialist spokesman added that "the poor management of the PP in recent years makes it clear that it does not have a clear roadmap for the entire Region in health matters, which is a tremendous punishment for these neighbors, who do not give solutions for the economic ruin to which the years of waste of the PP governments have taken us ".
Finally, he thanked the work done by the PSOE of Mazarrón and its municipal group and assured that the Socialist Parliamentary Group will monitor the regional government to respect and fulfill the mandate of the Regional Assembly.
Missed infrastructures
On the other hand, the municipal spokeswoman María Martínez indicated that Mazarrón being a coastal municipality, which increases its population exponentially in summer, has a very deficit health care during almost all the year.
"The emergencies are closed almost all year and only open during the summer months, we have infrastructures underutilized despite the cost they have had."
María Martínez also denounces that the X-ray services of the Mazarrón medical center only open from 8 to 15 hours, which means that if after that time a patient has to undergo this test he should go to the reference hospital in Cartagena.
"An unfair and inadmissible situation for the inhabitants of this area, since we have the necessary means."
Martínez added that to the aggravation of the health situation must be added the problem of communications between Mazarrón and Cartagena.
"Do not forget that we have a road full of curves and the other option is a toll road, which costs almost 5 euros."
The municipal spokeswoman criticized that the PP from 2007, has promised in all the municipal electoral campaigns a hospital of proximity for the zone, but never has happened of the words to the facts.
"We appreciate that our colleagues in the Assembly have promoted this initiative, echoing this historic claim of the municipality, Mazarrón has not evolved anything for almost ten years that a project was presented, we hope that this time it will soon become a reality."
