Keeping with the tradition and as a prelude to Christmas, the mazarronera parish of Las Balsicas celebrated its patron saint festivities last weekend.
Andrés García, a resident of the town, trumpeted Friday celebrations that reached their peak on Sunday morning with the Holy Mass in honor of the Patron, the Easter Candles bid and the "braying" Bartolo el Tabilla and Paco Minister.
Previously, the morning started with a left cyclist of Club Fenicios 2.0.
Numerous neighbors and visitors witnessed a tradition that has more than 200 years of history and that has its origin in the construction of the small hermitage in honor of the Purísima Concepción.
It was then, when the donkeys, which were the main transport elements, had to raise the materials to the top of the hill where the hermitage was to be found.
All ended exhausted except one, which, according to neighborhood testimonies, frolicked and brayed without stopping.
The young people gathered there laughed the attitude of the animal and began to imitate it.
The anecdote was remembered year after year until it became a popular celebration.
The brayer, wearing a hat with colored ribbons brays in the ear to the chosen person and simulates his grooming with a large comb, a horseshoe, barbs and hammer.
Good humor and understanding, always within the logical festive context, reigns during a day of fun and peculiar coexistence.
The parish priest of Puerto de Mazarrón, Abel Rosa, the mayor, Alicia Jiménez and several members of the government team shared with neighbors and visitors this day.
On Saturday morning there was a procession with the image of the Purísima, patron saint of Las Balsicas, accompanied by the Band of Drums and Bugles of the Parish of San José de Puerto de Mazarrón.
The De Rosa dance school brightened up the night of the proclamation on Friday.
