Mazarrón has a new space for environmental education after the opening of an ethnobotanical garden that brings together more than a hundred species, mainly from the area, but also from African and American ecosystems.
Located in front of the Mazarron cemetery, it is the work of a joint project of the councils of Parks and Gardens and Employment and Local Development.
The mayor of Mazarrón, Alicia Jiménez, stressed that "this is an action that serves to promote green spaces and to raise awareness among the students of the municipality ecosystems and the natural environment that surrounds them."
In this garden of 2,000 square meters you can find a representation of Mazarrón's ecosystems such as the littoral stretch of the coast, Mediterranean scrubland or aromatic crops.
The visit to the ethnobotanical garden will be offered to all educational centers so that they know the natural flora of their habitat, "said the mayor.
The project that has had a budget of 6,000 euros has managed to reconvert an old dump in a garden that, as indicated by the Councilor for Parks and Gardens, Marisol Vivancos, "is the only one of its characteristics of the entire Region of Murcia."
The mayor has announced that this new green dot "will be completed with the creation of school gardens in the municipal nursery", located in front of the new facilities.
In addition, the design of an area of ​​bio-healthy elements for physical maintenance is planned, also together with the new ethnobotanical garden.
The visiting hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
